Hurricane MD is the brand name for the antlered program at S&S Acres — elk and red deer. Two four-year-old bulls lead the elk breeding: BoneHead, an international champion carrying 478 inches this year, and Kodiak, a 480-inch-class bull running his own cow group. CWD-clean herd since inception, most recently tested February 2026. Brucellosis and tuberculosis tested clean.

Inferno — the LM-genotype legacy bull. He sold in 2025, but his semen lives on via State Line Cryogenics. We cross the LL and LM lines on purpose — complementary genetics for the next generation of breeding stock.
Rawhide — the proof on the ground: an Inferno son out of one of our best cows (tag 805), three years old this year and already running huge for his age. The Inferno line carrying forward in real time.
Gizmo — the named red stag and the foundation of our growing red deer program.

BoneHead came to S&S Acres in September 2026 as a four-year-old and went straight to work with his own cow group. He was the largest yearling in his class and the international champion at one year old in the antler competition — the bull on the cover of North American Elk that November.
The numbers since: 211 4/8 inches as a yearling, 466 inches at three, and 478 inches this year in velvet. His CWD genomic breeding value comes in at −0.11 — lower is more resistant — which is exactly the direction we're breeding.

Kodiak arrived the first week of September 2026, a four-year-old with a hardened rack already on his head, and went straight out to his own cow group. He and BoneHead split the breeding this season — two bulls, two groups, no overlap.
We haven't put a tape on him this year, so no official score: by eye he's a 480-inch-class bull, long in the main beam with heavy, forked tops. He's MM at codon 132 — the common genotype — and he's in the program for antler and frame while the LL and LM lines carry the resistance side.

Red deer females are hinds, not cows. The growing red deer herd at S&S Acres runs with Gizmo as the named stag, with hinds in seasonal rotation. The red deer program complements the elk side of Hurricane MD's antlered domain — the difference between elk and red deer matters genetically and operationally, and we keep them straight.
