Russell isn't a logo — he's an animal with a job. He leads the breeding line. Brucellosis and tuberculosis tested clean.
He's also the animal everyone asks about. The squishy face hides a serious attitude — Russell isn't a people-person, and the herd knows it. He doesn't perform for visitors. He runs the breeding line and goes back to the pasture.
Yaks are long-haired cattle native to the high-altitude grasslands of Tibet, Nepal, and Mongolia. Bred for thousands of years for meat, milk, fiber, and pack work in conditions most cattle can't survive. The double coat that keeps them warm at 14,000+ feet works just as well through an Ohio winter.
Pearl and Kali are the named pure-white yak females anchoring the rare white yak sub-program within Russell MD's domain. One carries both copies of the white gene; the other carries one — meaning one of them will throw white calves reliably in the breeding line. Together they're the foundation females of our future white yak program. Two young cows with a best-friend bond — cool, calm, quiet, a little shy, with a soft, feminine swagger all their own.
The yak herd is bred, dropped, and raised on our own land. Yak are remarkably well-suited to Ohio pasture year-round. Named animals carry engraved ear tags etched with the animal's name plus the S&S Acres logo — photographed and recorded from birth, same as every named animal across the ranch.
