Russell is our named breeding bull and the anchor of the S&S Acres yak program. Pearl and Kali — two all-white females — carry the white side of the herd forward.
Russell isn't a logo — he's an animal with a job. He leads the breeding line. Brucellosis and tuberculosis tested clean.
He's also the animal everyone asks about. The squishy face hides a serious attitude — Russell isn't a people-person, and the herd knows it. He doesn't perform for anyone. He runs the breeding line and goes back to the pasture.
Yaks are long-haired cattle native to the high-altitude grasslands of Tibet, Nepal, and Mongolia. Bred for thousands of years for meat, milk, fiber, and pack work in conditions most cattle can't survive. The double coat that keeps them warm at 14,000+ feet works just as well through an Ohio winter.
Pearl and Kali are the named all-white yak females anchoring the rare white yak sub-program within Russell MD's domain. One carries both copies of the white gene; the other carries one — meaning one of them will throw white calves reliably in the breeding line. Together they're the foundation females of our future white yak program. Two young cows with a best-friend bond — cool, calm, quiet, a little shy, with a soft, feminine swagger all their own.

The yak herd is bred, dropped, and raised on our own land. Yak are remarkably well-suited to Ohio pasture year-round. Named animals carry engraved ear tags etched with the animal's name plus the S&S Acres logo — photographed and recorded from birth, same as every named animal across the ranch.
The herd is growing.

Hands on the white yak. Jason and Maddox getting close to the line that's going to carry the rare-color side of the program forward.
Two black yak females in the breeding herd — named, paired, and running with Russell. Two calm, docile young mothers — friendly, food-loving, and relaxed by nature, with a protective side that shows up when their babies need them.

Russell, our black herd bull, bedded down on pasture with Kali, one of the two white foundation females.
Regina is a black yak heifer calf born August 23, 2026, sired by Russell out of Dixie. Bottle-raised in the barn, so she's used to people and easy to handle — a foundation female for anyone starting a yak herd.
She shares a pen and a bottle schedule with Mason Blaine, our Highland bull calf — he's on the Zeus MD page.

Yak is a lean, slightly sweet red meat and a good source of iron. We’ll put a date on the Russell line when there’s product to back it up.
